I was born and raised in a small town on the southern Oregon coast, and from a young age, I dreamed of a career in medicine. In pursuit of this goal, I attended the University of Nevada on a track and field scholarship, and earned my undergraduate degree in biology. My time in Nevada was invaluable but the Pacific Northwest will always be home. I returned for my physician associate training at Oregon Health & Science University and have lived in Portland ever since.
Although I now happily live and practice in the city, I’m grateful for my small-town upbringing. Growing up in a tight-knit environment shaped my outlook on medicine and taught me the importance of building relationships. In my hometown, it wouldn’t be uncommon to run into your health care provider at the grocery store or post office. This sense of community influenced me to approach patients in my clinical practice as if I’m caring for a neighbor or friend.
I was drawn to family medicine because it allows me to interact with a diverse group of people and to get to know them as individuals. I also have a background in urgent care and enjoy performing minor procedures and treating acute conditions.
No matter the nature of a patient’s visit, I aim to foster open communication. I’m passionate about providing education and empowering patients to feel comfortable taking an active role in their care. I believe in shared decision-making, and I strive to help each patient achieve personalized goals and, ultimately, the greatest possible quality of life and health.
When I’m not in the clinic, I can often be found spending time with family and friends and getting outdoors as much as possible. Some of my favorite activities are: traveling, hiking, camping, traditional archery, participating in recreational sports leagues, and documenting all of my adventures through photography.
As a fifth-generation Oregonian with my roots firmly planted in Portland, I’m proud to be part of such a respected and long-standing organization. I am a proponent of team-based medicine and appreciate the collaborative approach that this well-established multispecialty clinic allows. I’m honored to be working with The Portland Clinic team to provide quality health care in the community that I love.
Please note: As a physician associate, Amanda sees same-day/overflow patients for other Northeast Clinic physicians. Patients can’t choose Amanda as their primary care provider.
