Infectious Disease Medicine

Overview

Infectious disease specialists are experts in diagnosing and treating medical conditions caused by bacteria, viruses, fungal organisms, parasites and other microorganisms. The Portland Clinic’s infectious disease physician consults with your primary care provider and other specialists when you have an infection that is difficult to diagnose or treat.

SERVICES

  • Bacterial infections: diagnosis and treatment of MRSA, C. difficile infection, recurrent urinary tract infections, endocarditis, bone and joint infections, tuberculosis and other bacterial infections
  • Hospital-acquired infections: treatment and follow-up, including antibiotic infusion and coordination of care
  • Invasive fungal infections: diagnosis and treatment
  • Travel-related illnesses: evaluation and treatment, including vaccination concerns
  • Fevers of unknown origin (FUO): evaluation
  • HIV: diagnosis, treatment and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for individuals at risk

To ensure collaborative care and a meaningful visit, a referral is required from your primary care provider, surgeon or specialist for all services except HIV care. Ideally, referrals should include your medical history, lab reports and results of any cultures or tests. For HIV care, please contact us directly.
